Henrik Landerholm faces trial over a security breach involving classified documents he left unsecured.

Key Points

  • • Landerholm claims ignorance of the classified nature of the documents.
  • • The incident occurred in March 2023 at a conference center.
  • • Prosecutors warn of severe national security risks due to the breach.
  • • Landerholm could face up to one year in prison if convicted.

Henrik Landerholm is currently facing intense scrutiny in Attunda District Court over allegations of gross negligence regarding classified information. In a trial marked by closed sessions to protect sensitive details, Landerholm, a security advisor, is charged with forgetting classified documents in an unlocked cabinet during a conference in March 2023.

During his testimony, Landerholm described this period as the most stressful of his 40-year career, expressing that the incident was an unfortunate mistake rather than a demonstration of criminal intent. "I did not receive any information that they were security-protected," he claimed, maintaining that he was unaware of the classified nature of the documents and asserting that this situation does not amount to a crime.

Prosecutors argue that the leaked documents could seriously harm Sweden’s national security, having been reviewed by several authorities including the Security Police and Military Intelligence. If convicted, Landerholm could face penalties ranging from fines to a maximum of one year in prison. His defense attorney contended that Landerholm’s acknowledgment of the oversight does not equal gross negligence and emphasized that he has been working under significant pressure without adequate support.
