Carolina Klint, a leading risk expert from Marsh, warns that Swedish businesses are significantly underestimating digital threats, particularly in an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape. In her analysis, published on September 16, 2025, Klint highlights how the evolution of cyber threats fueled by artificial intelligence marks a substantial risk to companies. She underscores a recent incident involving a Hong Kong firm that suffered a staggering $25 million loss due to an AI-driven scam, illustrating the sophistication of cyber-attacks today.

Klint, co-author of the World Economic Forum's Global Risks Report, asserts that as geopolitical tensions rise, businesses, especially in export-reliant nations like Sweden, must prioritize these emerging risks in their strategic planning. She warns that while geopolitical and environmental risks gain attention, digital threats will dominate the risk landscape in the next decade. Additionally, issues like climate change are already impacting supply chains and production capacities, further complicating the business environment.

To mitigate these threats, Klint offers five practical recommendations for firms: elevate risk management discussions within senior leadership, implement continuous employee training on risk awareness, cultivate a culture that prioritizes risk awareness, acknowledge interconnected risks, and embrace diverse perspectives in decision-making.

She concludes that fortifying resilience is essential for businesses aiming to navigate the complexities of future crises and ensure sustainable operations.
