Ebba Andersson opts for home training ahead of 2026 Olympics, focusing on a tailored approach.

    Key details

  • • Ebba Andersson is training at home in Sollefteå with her father-coach.
  • • She aims to reduce external distractions and pressure before the Olympics.
  • • Her decision follows success at the 2023 World Championships where she won four medals.
  • • Andersson is overcoming challenges from a recent meniscus injury.

In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics, Ebba Andersson, the 28-year-old Swedish cross-country skier, has opted to prepare by training at her family home in Sollefteå, rather than participating in the national team's pre-Olympic camp in Val di Fiemme. This decision marks a significant shift in her training regimen, focusing on a tailored approach alongside her father and coach, Per-Ola Andersson.

Andersson has expressed that the home training environment is crucial for her mental and physical preparation, especially after a disappointing experience during the Beijing Olympics, where she did not secure individual medals. "When I come home, it feels very relaxed. I am not affected by anything else or what others are doing. This has been very important for me in this last phase of preparation," she stated in a recent interview.

Her decision is especially notable given her previous success. At the 2023 World Championships, she claimed four medals, including two golds and two bronzes, contributing to a total of five World Championship golds in her career. These achievements have led to wider acceptance of her choice to focus on individual training, despite initial reservations.

Furthermore, Andersson's recent training has faced obstacles following a meniscus injury she sustained in July, which has required her to adapt her approach. By choosing to train at home, she aims to minimize external distractions and bolster her focus before the upcoming Olympic Games, scheduled to take place in February 2026.

As she embarks on this unconventional path, the Swedish skiing community will be watching closely to see how her decision impacts her performance ahead of the Winter Olympics.
