At the 2025 World Championships in Athletics, Swedish female athletes faced significant challenges, notably highlighted by Sarah Lahti's struggles with gender testing and injury, as well as early eliminations of high jumpers Engla Nilsson and Ellen Ekholm.

Sarah Lahti encountered difficulties attending the championship due to mandatory gender testing regulations. Training in France, where gender testing is illegal, prompted the team to travel to Spain for necessary testing. Despite finding the situation "very difficult," Lahti, who was sidelined from the Finnkampen due to a foot injury, expressed her confidence for her upcoming 5000 meters semifinal, stating, "I feel at my best and am excited."

In the high jump event, both Nilsson and Ekholm had disappointing outcomes, failing to clear the qualification heights. Ellen Ekholm, in her championship debut, could not clear the opening height of 1.83 meters, leading to her immediate elimination. Engla Nilsson managed to reach 1.92 meters but ultimately faced elimination as well. After the event, Nilsson expressed her frustration, saying, "It sucks, it was really not how I had hoped it would go at my first World Championship," while both athletes provided comfort to one another in their emotional moments of defeat.

These setbacks highlight the persistent challenges faced by female athletes in high-stakes competitions, including external pressures and internal struggles. Lahti’s experience is particularly reflective of broader issues in women's sports regarding gender identity testing. With mounting difficulties, the focus remains on resilience and recovery as the championships continue.
