Ystads IF Faces Financial Strain Due to Delayed FIFA Payments

Ystads IF continues to experience delays in FIFA payments that are affecting its finances despite not being heavily impacted financially.

Key Points

  • • Ystads IF has awaited FIFA solidarity payments for two years due to an administrative error.
  • • FIFA mistakenly documented the wrong player's name, delaying a payment of approximately 300,000 kronor.
  • • Club president Jonas Lellky expressed frustration with FIFA's response.
  • • Although the payment is important, it was not part of the club's budget.

Ystads IF continues to grapple with financial challenges stemming from a prolonged wait for FIFA solidarity payments tied to the transfer of player Hugo Larsson. The club has been awaiting these payments for two years, amounting to around 300,000 kronor, due to a serious administrative mistake by FIFA. The issue arose when FIFA erroneously listed the name of a different player in their documentation, delaying the payment that should compensate Ystads IF for Larsson's transfer from Malmö FF to Eintracht Frankfurt, valued at about 130 million kronor.

Jonas Lellky, the president of Ystads IF, expressed his frustration regarding the lack of cooperation from FIFA in resolving the issue, stating that upon reviewing the documents, an unfamiliar name was spotted, prompting the club to alert FIFA. Despite this setback, Lellky assured that the financial strain has not been overwhelming as the club had not budgeted for these incoming funds, viewing the payment as a beneficial boost rather than a financial necessity.

As of now, Ystads IF is awaiting communication from the FIFA Clearing House, a process that has proven to be lengthy and complicated. The Swedish Football Association is also providing assistance in this matter. Lellky pointed out that, unlike them, some clubs, such as IFK Aspudden-Tellus, have successfully received similar solidarity payments. Unfortunately, Larsson's youth club, Charlo, will not benefit from solidarity payments since they fall outside the age range for compensation during his development years.
