Truls Möregårdh, Sweden's top table tennis player, has opened up about his recurring knee injury following his exit from the ongoing China Smash tournament, where he suffered a 1–3 defeat against Japan's Yukiya Uda in the round of 16. Despite an initial lead, Möregårdh was unable to maintain his advantage, facing a strong comeback from Uda, currently ranked 33rd in the world.

After the match, Möregårdh described a 'scary feeling' regarding his knee, which had previously undergone surgery five years ago. He explained that he has been experiencing sharp pain which fluctuates in intensity and can hinder his performance. Nevertheless, he was keen to emphasize that his loss to Uda was not directly attributed to his injury, acknowledging the Japanese player's superior skills on the day.

Möregårdh expressed reluctance towards undergoing another surgery, stating he understands medical advice to rest but feels that his knee isn't functioning as it should. This early exit not only impacts his ranking points but also means a significant loss of tournament prize money, further complicating his performance in future events. In similar news, fellow Swedish player Kristian Karlsson also faced early elimination, losing to China's Lin Shidong in the same round.
