This development was announced on August 25, 2025, during a ceremony that included key officials such as Mikael Granholm, director general of Försvarets materielverk (FMV), and Punpakdee Pattanakul, the chief of the Thai Air Force.

The delivery of these Gripen aircraft is scheduled to occur between 2025 and 2030. Thailand, which has prior experience with Gripen fighters, is expected to enhance its defensive capabilities with this newest addition to its fleet, as stated by Micael Johansson, CEO of Saab. Johansson emphasized that the Gripen E/F is the most modern combat aircraft available and positions Thailand to advance its military strategy effectively.

This contract not only underscores Saab's growing presence in the international military aviation market but also solidifies the longstanding military and diplomatic relations between Sweden and Thailand. As a new customer for the Gripen E/F, Thailand joins a select group of nations relying on this advanced platform for their defense needs.
