The 2025 European Beach Volleyball Championships kick off today in Düsseldorf, Germany, featuring two Swedish teams: the experienced duo of David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig, and the rising stars Jakob Höltning Nilsson and Elmer Andersson. This year's competition runs from July 30 to August 3.

Åhman and Hellvig are seasoned competitors, having won two European Championships in 2022 and 2023, and most recently snagging Olympic gold in Paris 2024. They enter the tournament as one of the favorites, regarded as the second-best team overall. Meanwhile, Höltning Nilsson, 20, and Andersson, 19, are looking to make a mark in their debut at the men's European level after notable successes in U22 competitions, with Höltning Nilsson securing two golds and Andersson one.

Both teams have been training intensively ahead of the opening matches, with the event featuring a total of 32 teams in the men's tournament. Quarterfinals will be broadcasted on SVT and SVT Play on August 1. Head coach Anders Kristiansson expressed enthusiasm for the tournament, anticipating thrilling matches against some of the world's best teams.

Hötlting Nilsson and Andersson recently reached the finals of a world tour event in Gstaad, propelling them to the ninth spot in global rankings. Andersson shared his confidence, saying, 'We know we can beat almost any team.' They are particularly looking forward to a potential face-off against their fellow countrymen, Åhman and Hellvig, in what would be a noteworthy knockout confrontation of elite Swedish athletes.
