At the Varberg athletics meet, Swedish athletes delivered remarkable performances, setting the stage for the upcoming World Championships. Wictor Petersson made headlines with a shot put throw of 21.16 meters, marking the second longest outdoor shot put in Swedish history, just shy of Hans Höglund's 50-year-old record.
In the discus throw, Vanessa Kamga showcased her strong form with a 64-meter throw, signaling her readiness as she gears up for competition.
Additionally, Andreas Kramer reclaimed the Swedish record in the 1,000 meters with an impressive time of 2:14.98, shattering Samuel Pihlström's previous record of 2:16.55 set earlier this month. Kramer not only set a new record for Sweden but also established a new Nordic outdoor record. "I know I had it within reach, but it has to be done too," he said, expressing his satisfaction with the performance and his ongoing focus on the World Championships.
Henrik Larsson was another standout at the meet, running the 100 meters in 10.12 seconds, just four hundredths of a second from his own Swedish record. Despite this near-record, Larsson finished second as Jamaica's Odaine McPherson took the win with a time of 10.08 seconds. "It’s a good day; it could have been better. But 10.12 twice is good," Larsson reflected, implying he still aims for peak performance ahead of the World Championships set to commence on September 13.
