Swedish public broadcaster SVT has officially announced its plans to air matches from the Women's Super League (WSL) beginning with the upcoming 2025/2026 season. This significant development will allow Swedish fans to watch one match per week, promoting the top-tier women's football league in England, known for featuring some of the best players in the world, including prominent Swedish national athletes.

The inaugural match SVT will showcase is set to be a highly anticipated clash between Manchester United and Arsenal on September 21, 2025. Swedish player Fridolina Rolfö, who recently transferred from Barcelona, will be making her debut for Manchester United, while Stina Blackstenius will represent Arsenal. Both teams have enjoyed successful starts to the season, strengthening interest in this matchup.

Max Bursell, SVT's sports manager, expressed the importance of this new broadcasting agreement, stating, "We will show the World Cup 2027 and all national team matches for several years to come, and now we can also showcase many of the national stars' everyday lives in perhaps the best league in the world." This move follows the previous broadcasting arrangements with Viaplay, which did not come through for this season's kickoff due to unfinalized agreements.

The WSL is recognized globally for its high level of competitive play and features an array of international stars such as Alessia Russo, Sam Kerr, and Lauren Hemp. Notably, the reigning champions, Chelsea, boast two Swedish players, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd and Nathalie Björn. Upcoming fixtures on SVT's schedule will include important matches, with Manchester City facing the London Lionesses on September 28, and another key match between Manchester United and Chelsea on October 3.
