Sweden Invests 500 Million SEK to Strengthen Domestic Ammunition Production

Sweden's government has launched a strategic initiative to secure a robust and sustainable supply of ammunition, with plans to invest 500 million SEK in state co-financing for ammunition production capacity. Announced by Defense Minister Pål Jonsson, this investment aims to strengthen both Sweden's and the Nordic region's manufacturing capabilities amid ongoing security concerns.

The funding targets several key defense industry companies including Eurenco Bofors, Sweden Ballistics, Norma Precision, Nammo Sweden, and Junghans Microtec. These companies will apply for European Union funds with the assistance of the Swedish government to expand their production facilities.

Priority areas for enhancement include the manufacturing of propellants and fuses specifically for the Archer artillery system. Additionally, efforts will focus on producing small-caliber ammunition and explosives to meet national and regional defense needs. This approach underscores Sweden’s commitment to maintaining an independent and collaborative defense supply chain adaptable to peace, crisis, and wartime scenarios.

The collaboration with Nordic partners is a key aspect of the initiative, signifying regional integration and shared security objectives. The Defense Minister emphasized that the decision ensures a "robust and sustainable supply of ammunition" that will enhance preparedness across multiple defense sectors.
