The Swedish Social Democratic Youth (SSU) is taking a proactive stance on youth mental health by organizing a public running event titled ‘Spring för psykisk ohälsa’ (Run for Mental Health) in Krylbo. Scheduled for August 3, the initiative aims to raise awareness about mental health issues affecting young people while simultaneously pressuring local politicians to fulfill their commitments to these critical concerns.

Participants in the event will have the option to run, walk, or cycle a six-kilometer route, with SSU members committed to running for 12 hours throughout the day. Nicolas Larén Hillerström, the SSU chair in Avesta/Hedemora, underscored the importance of engaging local social democratic politicians in the event, noting that they are pivotal in making decisions that affect youth mental health. "We want these leaders to not just speak but to take action," said Hillerström.

In addition to the running event, organizers will provide food for young participants and host a fundraising campaign for Bris, an organization advocating for children's rights in society. As Hillerström pointed out, the dual goal is to promote awareness of mental health challenges and to encourage local politicians to translate their promises into actionable support for youth mental health initiatives.
