Police in northern Sweden have issued alerts regarding fraudulent ads impersonating the clothing retailer Lindex after receiving twelve reports of fraud since August 15. Victims who responded to these advertisements paid for clothing items using credit cards but reported that they never received the goods, resulting in significant financial losses.
The affected individuals hail mainly from Västernorrland, Västerbotten, and Norrbotten counties, highlighting the widespread nature of this issue. Nevertheless, authorities are urging consumers across the entire country to remain vigilant, as the fraudulent advertisements have been circulating on popular social media platforms including TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, promising appealing sales at Lindex.
When users clicked on these ads, they were taken to counterfeit websites designed to look like Lindex’s official site. Examples of these bogus URLs include 'lindex.outlone.shop' and 'lindex.autosale.shop.' In a recent press release, the police stressed the necessity for buyers to verify website addresses scrupulously and to be wary of unusual characters or phrases in URLs before proceeding with online purchases. This warning aims to prevent further victims from falling prey to these scams.
