The incident happened approximately 100 meters from the cable car station, where witnesses alerted SOS Alarm after seeing the paraglider crash into a rock wall. An ambulance helicopter was dispatched, and rescue services used the cable car to navigate the challenging terrain to the crash site.
The pilot, identified as an experienced flyer using a mini-paraglider, was conscious and able to communicate despite sustaining injuries to a leg and knee. Incident commander Anna Hammarberg reported that the ambulance helicopter was in the process of loading the injured pilot when they arrived.
Lars Hedström from the Åre Paragliding Club explained that the pilot encountered sinking air approximately 50-100 meters below the launch point, which led to the emergency landing in the rocky area. Despite the unfortunate event, the pilot's consciousness and communication ability following the crash suggest a degree of resilience amidst the accident.
