Örebro municipality has suspended all live safety drills at Campus Risbergska following two false alarms triggered by a safety app during staff training exercises on Wednesday. The app, which was previously used during the tragic mass shooting on February 4, 2025, when 10 people were killed and 6 injured, mistakenly sent alerts indicating threats and violence. Mokhtar Bennis, head of secondary and adult education, expressed deep regret for the distress these false alarms caused, acknowledging that they evoked traumatic memories of the earlier violent event. Mats Brantsberg, Örebro's security chief, emphasized the vital importance of maintaining trust in the alert system, stating that misinformation from inaccurate warnings can generate fear and erode confidence in legitimate alerts. As a result, the municipality is currently reviewing the app's usage protocols to prevent further misinformation. While live exercises are paused, theoretical training continues pending the outcome of this review.
