Simona Mohamsson, leader of Sweden's Liberal Party, has declared that her party will not support Ulf Kristersson as Prime Minister if the Sweden Democrats (SD) are included in the government after the upcoming election. This decision was made by the Liberal Party's leadership over two weeks ago and was reiterated by Mohamsson in her appearances on SVT's Agenda on October 26, 2025.

Mohamsson emphasized that the Liberals would vote against Kristersson should SD obtain ministerial positions in a potential coalition government. She dismissed cooperation with the Sweden Democrats, stating they do not represent a traditional bourgeois party and that their involvement risks alienating voters searching for a more moderate alternative. Nevertheless, Mohamsson expressed hope for negotiating a new version of the Tidöavtalet – the agreement that currently governs cooperation among center-right parties – to preserve cooperation aimed at a “richer, safer, and freer Sweden.”

She also indicated her readiness for a new election if necessary to prevent the inclusion of SD in the government, asserting: "That will happen if it comes to that, but my starting point is that we have managed to resolve this before."

In response to the Liberals’ stance, Jimmie Åkesson, leader of the Sweden Democrats, publicly criticized the position as "incomprehensible," highlighting the clear political divide. The Liberals' rejection underscores the complexities in forming a government post-election, as Kristersson and his Moderate Party seek to balance alliances without the support of SD from the Liberals’ perspective.

This firm opposition from the Liberals adds to the ongoing political tensions surrounding government formation in Sweden, emphasizing ideological divides that shape party collaboration strategies moving forward.
