Key details
Helsingborg has introduced Ekonomicoachen, a new platform aimed at tackling the rising economic challenges faced by residents amid increasing debt levels in Sweden, which are growing by 52 million kronor daily. This initiative seeks to provide personalized financial advice, action plans, and support resources to both residents and city officials dealing with financial distress. Funded by the city’s innovation fund, Ekonomicoachen focuses on promoting economic self-sufficiency and reducing the stigma surrounding discussions of financial difficulties.
Linda Lindström, a budget and debt advisor and the initiator of Ekonomicoachen, highlights the importance of accessible tools and support to encourage early intervention, which can prevent severe consequences such as evictions and mental health problems. Alongside the platform, a training program titled “Vägen vidare – om att möta ekonomisk ohälsa” has been developed for municipal officials, aiming to equip them with skills to identify and support individuals at risk.
The platform was created through collaboration among various municipal departments and was launched within six months. To raise public awareness, a breakfast event is planned for October 24 featuring Magdalena Kowalczyk from Lyxfällan, who will discuss strategies to promote financial well-being in the community.
