EKN Boosts Swedish Exports to Ukraine with New Guarantee Scheme Amid Conflict

EKN's enhanced guarantee scheme enables Swedish exporters to safely engage in Ukraine's reconstruction amid ongoing conflict.

    Key details

  • • EKN's guarantee covers up to 95% of payment risks, up from 80%.
  • • Credit terms extended from two years to ten years for large projects.
  • • Trioworld is the first company to utilize the new guarantees.
  • • Separate defense export regulation established with 500 million kronor coverage.

Sweden's Exportkreditnämnden (EKN) has implemented a pioneering guarantee scheme in 2025, empowering Swedish companies to continue exporting to Ukraine despite ongoing war risks. This initiative is designed to support Ukraine's reconstruction while safeguarding Swedish exporters from payment risks.

Trioworld, a company from Småland, is the first to benefit from these guarantees, enabling it to resume agricultural exports to Ukraine under standard 60-day payment terms, a significant improvement over the previously required half-upfront payments due to risk concerns. The guarantee coverage has been increased to 95% of payment risks from the earlier 80%, encouraging more Swedish firms to engage with the Ukrainian market.

Additionally, EKN has expanded credit terms from two years to up to ten years, facilitating large-scale infrastructure and telecommunications projects. These are carefully assessed in cooperation with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) to ensure real benefits to Ukraine's economy.

A distinct regulation for defense-related exports allows guarantees of up to 500 million kronor under stricter conditions. The overall budget for these guarantees is 888 million kronor in 2025, with plans to double in 2026.

Anna Flock Hedin, leading EKN's Team Sweden efforts, emphasized that this special scheme enables Swedish companies to navigate a high-risk market safely and contribute to reconstruction efforts, marking a vital collaboration of Swedish agencies and businesses towards Ukraine's recovery.
