Julia Simon, a prominent 29-year-old biathlete, has been convicted of theft and fraud after admitting to using her teammate Justine Braisaz-Bouchet's credit card for unauthorized purchases. She received a three-month suspended prison sentence and was fined 15,000 euros. The case also involved two other victims, including a physiotherapist associated with the French national team. Despite initially denying the accusations, Simon changed her plea during her court hearing in Albertville, France, expressing regret and stating, "There were no financial motives for my actions. Today, I take it one day at a time, as facing you will have consequences for my career. It was silly and stupid, as I didn't need it."

The prosecution had sought a two-month suspended sentence and a fine of 20,000 euros, but the court imposed a harsher fine along with the conditional sentence. Further, Simon must reimburse Braisaz-Bouchet for legal costs and pay a symbolic fine of 1 euro to the French Ski Federation. Attempts at reaching a settlement and repayment with the victims failed, leading to the court trial.

Despite the legal issues, Simon has maintained her competitive form, winning four gold medals at the Biathlon World Championships and holding ten World Championship gold medals alongside a World Cup title. She remains a strong contender for the coming Olympics in Milan and Cortina, although she acknowledged the personal and professional consequences of her actions.
