In a series of alarming revelations, several politicians affiliated with the Sweden Democrats (SD) party have been implicated in connections with criminal motorcycle gangs, including the Hells Angels and Bandidos. These disclosures have raised significant concerns about political accountability and criminal associations within the party.
Jimmy Forsell, a local politician from Bollnäs, admitted to being a member of the Hells Angels supporter group, the Red & White Crew, for five years. During a police interrogation in 2020, Forsell indicated that he had no ties to the gang itself, claiming his involvement was strictly support and not membership. However, his admissions have ignited outrage, particularly from the opposition, with Teresa Carvalho, justice policy spokesperson for the Social Democrats, calling on the Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to address the troubling connections that seem to form a 'serious pattern' within the SD (ID 2443).
The ramifications of these connections extend beyond Forsell, as another SD politician, Berry Hasselqvist, resigned shortly after being photographed with a Hells Angels loyalty badge. In addition, Bruno Bergström faced backlash after an aggressive confrontation with a reporter during this escalating investigation into the party's associations with these gangs (ID 2443).
Further complicating the matter, Dan Björk, an SD politician and vice chairman of Åhus Hamn & Stuveri AB, reported having attended a party in February 2016 that included members from the Bandidos and Cobra MC. He characterized his presence as a casual invitation, stating, 'I was there at a party. We were invited by someone,' and described the gathering as a normal event intended to strengthen motorcycle club ties (ID 2444).
Despite these serious allegations, Jonatan Hölzgen, the opposition leader in Bollnäs, has attempted to downplay the significance of Forsell's past gang associations, asserting that Forsell distanced himself from the Red & White Crew five years ago before joining the SD. Hölzgen maintained that Forsell has left that aspect of his life behind (ID 2441).
As the situation unfolds, the SD's connections to criminal elements continue to attract scrutiny, raising vital questions about the integrity and future of the party within Sweden’s political landscape.
