Swedish Duo Capture Gold at 2026 European Beach Volleyball Championships

Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson secured a historic gold medal at the 2026 European Beach Volleyball Championships following a tense final against Norway’s Mol and Sörum. The match, played in three sets, ended 2-1 in favor of the Swedish pair with set scores of 21-18, 18-21, and a decisive 15-10 in the third. This victory also guarantees them a direct qualification spot for the 2028 Olympics, fulfilling a long-held dream since they began their partnership.

The Swedish team faced immense challenges throughout, notably defeating their compatriots and world top-ranked duo David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig in the semifinals. The semifinal clash was a showcase of elite beach volleyball, concluding with scores of 23-21 and 28-26 in straight sets for Hölting Nilsson and Andersson, despite Åhman and Hellvig saving several match points. Prior to this tournament, these two teams had also met in a world championship final, highlighting the strong presence of Swedish teams in the sport.

Jacob Hölting Nilsson praised the Norwegian finalists immediately after the victory, calling Mol and Sörum the "toughest team you can face and perhaps the best team ever," expressing excitement over the high-level competition in the European Championship final.

Meanwhile, Åhman and Hellvig competed for the bronze medal but fell to the French team of Rotar and Gauthier-Rat. Despite the loss, their appearance in the semifinals underscores Sweden’s rising prominence in European beach volleyball.
