Swedish National Team Finalizes World Cup 2026 Preparations Amid Safety and Weather Concerns

Sweden's national football team is gearing up for its first major tournament in five years as the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, scheduled from June 11 to July 19 across the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Head coach Graham Potter has announced Sweden's squad, with star forward Viktor Gyökeres joining the camp late due to his Champions League final commitments.

The team will convene in Stockholm on May 27 and play preparatory friendlies against Norway on June 1 in Oslo, and Greece on June 4 in Solna before heading to their base in Dallas, Texas. They will stay at The Westin Dallas Stonebriar Golf Resort & Spa and train at FC Dallas’s Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Sweden’s group stage campaign kicks off on June 15 against Tunisia in Monterrey, followed by matches against the Netherlands on June 20 in Houston, and Japan on June 26 in Dallas.

Concerns have been raised about the heat in the USA during July, with temperatures potentially reaching 32 degrees Celsius, prompting the implementation of planned three-minute hydration breaks in each half to protect player health. Additionally, safety issues surfaced following a shooting incident near the Swedish team hotel in Dallas, which resulted in two deaths. The Swedish Football Association is closely monitoring the situation to ensure player security.

This tournament marks a return for Sweden, which missed the 2022 World Cup after failing to qualify but reached the quarter-finals in 2018. The expanded tournament features 48 teams competing in 12 groups. Sweden qualified by defeating Ukraine and Poland during playoff rounds. While ticket prices for the final have reached unprecedented levels, tickets for Sweden’s matches remain accessible, priced between $500 and $1,560.

The World Cup opening ceremonies will be held in three locations with performances by artists including Katy Perry.
