Sweden Strengthens Denmark's Security with Counter-Drone Capabilities Ahead of EU Summit

In response to recent drone incidents threatening Denmark's security, the Swedish government has dispatched counter-drone systems to support its neighbor ahead of a crucial EU summit. Notably, a radar system was sent over the weekend to bolster defenses as Denmark closes its airspace to civilian drones until Friday, reflecting heightened security measures for the summit hosting 44 world leaders.

Denmark's Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen expressed that the current security landscape requires optimal conditions for military and police operations. Earlier incidents of drone sightings near military installations prompted this coordinated defense strategy. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson emphasized the importance of supporting allied nations, convening an emergency government meeting to facilitate the military aid.

The Swedish Armed Forces are deploying a Counter UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) unit to assist Danish forces, which will operate under the Danish military's command. These systems have been proven effective in various missions, including those conducted under NATO auspices.

The geopolitical context surrounding this military cooperation includes suspicions regarding Russian involvement in drone intrusions, with the Kremlin acknowledging such breaches related to tensions over Ukraine.
