Sweden Secures Victory Over Ukraine in Women's Handball EM Qualifier Despite Slow Start

Sweden's women's handball team claimed a 33-25 win against Ukraine in their EM 2026 qualification match held on October 16, 2025, in Alingsås. Despite a sluggish beginning marked by four scoreless minutes and an early penalty goal by Ukraine, Sweden rebounded to lead 16-11 by halftime. Coach Tomas Axnér acknowledged the initial offensive struggles, noting the need for better play and movement to secure a stronger goal margin. Nonetheless, Sweden's experience shone through in maintaining control during the second half.

A milestone highlight of the game was Jamina Roberts reaching her 700th international goal milestone, scoring four goals in what was her 260th international match. Nathalie Hagman highlighted the challenge posed by Ukraine's offensive defense in the first half but praised Sweden's overall defensive strength.
