Sweden Confirms Readiness for NATO's Arctic Sentry Mission in Greenland

Denmark is spearheading a long-term NATO mission in Greenland, known as "Arctic Sentry," with hopes of involving the United States in the initiative. Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen recently visited Gothenburg, Sweden, to discuss defense cooperation related to this strategic Arctic operation. Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson has confirmed Sweden's readiness to contribute to the mission, stating, "We are very open to it." This mission follows NATO's previous "Baltic Sentry" operation, which was launched in response to damaging incidents targeting undersea cables in the Baltic Sea.

Sweden has a history of Arctic engagement, having sent troops to participate in ongoing military exercises in Greenland. While Sweden's specific contributions to Arctic Sentry are yet to be finalized, the country is prepared to support NATO's efforts to strengthen security in the Arctic region. This cooperation underscores Sweden's commitment to regional defense collaboration within NATO frameworks, especially as Greenland assumes increasing strategic importance.

Minister Poulsen's visit to Gothenburg highlights the growing defense ties between Denmark and Sweden, key partners in this mission. Jonson emphasized Sweden's proactive approach, signaling openness to deepening military collaboration in the Arctic amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
