Omni Ekonomi to Close in May, Economic Coverage Integrated into Omni

Omni Ekonomi, launched in 2017 and transformed into a paid service in 2020, will cease as an independent product on May 15, 2026. The announcement was made by Markus Gustafsson, editor-in-chief of Omni, on March 25, highlighting that parts of Omni Ekonomi's editorial coverage will be integrated into Omni's main news platform. The decision stems from significant market changes within independent economic news services, which have made it challenging for Omni Ekonomi to achieve the scale necessary for long-term profitability.

As a result of this reorganization by Schibsted Media, which owns Omni, a total of 11 jobs will be impacted: seven positions will be eliminated while four new roles will be created within Omni’s main editorial team to support the integrated economic coverage. Negotiations have been conducted with union representatives to seek voluntary agreements regarding employment changes.

Markus Gustafsson acknowledged the difficult nature of this decision, stating that Omni Ekonomi held a strong position in Swedish economic journalism and had developed a loyal user base with its unique app delivering timely economic and stock market news. The integration is aimed at reaching a broader audience by combining economic news within Omni’s general news product, facilitating more effective resource allocation and continued innovation in digital news delivery. Readers of Omni Ekonomi will now be directed to Omni's main app and website for economic news.
