Katja Nyberg Leaves Sweden Democrats Amid Drug and Drunk Driving Allegations

Katja Nyberg, a member of the Sweden Democrats (SD), has been embroiled in a scandal following a traffic accident in December 2025, leading to serious allegations of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Authorities discovered that Nyberg's blood contained narcotics and a blood alcohol level of 0.12 promille. Additionally, police found around 2 grams of suspected cocaine during a body search related to the incident.

Following these revelations, the Transportstyrelsen revoked Nyberg's driving license. The political ramifications were swift: a planned Sweden Democrats press conference to announce their election promise was canceled, and Nyberg was removed from several advisory boards within the Riksdag under party pressure. Deputy party leader Henrik Vinge expressed deep disappointment and indicated it was untenable for Nyberg to continue representing the party while under such allegations.

Nyberg has denied any wrongdoing, stating that public speculation and rumors have been the hardest part to endure, impacting her family and children. In a statement, she said, "After discussions with my party leadership, I have decided to leave the Sweden Democrats.
