Investigation Expands in Fagersta School Attack with Youths Suspected of Murder Plans

The ongoing investigation into a violent school attack at Brinellskolan in Fagersta, Sweden, has broadened to include several youths suspected of serious offenses, including murder preparation and aiding attempted murder. The main suspect is an 18-year-old man, Liam Nebel, while investigations now also focus on a 15-year-old girl from Södermanland and multiple other minors.

Prosecutor Adolf Moberg Oleszkiewicz confirmed that the 15-year-old girl, linked to Nebel through digital communications, is under investigation for preparing for murder. However, this suspicion is considered separate from the Fagersta attack itself. The girl reportedly expressed fascination with previous school attacks on social media, notably following the case of Fabian Cederholm, who is serving a life sentence for a double murder committed in 2022. Authorities discovered several of her social media accounts, including one that referenced a 15-year-old attacker from a 2021 school-related incident. Although she denies any criminal wrongdoing, the police have taken her into custody under the Care of Young Persons Act (LVU) and seized items from her residence for further analysis.

Additionally, a 13-year-old boy from Gothenburg has been detained for making serious illegal threats, and a 16-year-old boy from the Stockholm area is already in custody on charges of aiding and attempting murder related to the Fagersta attack. Another child under 15 is also being held, suspected of conspiracy to commit murder.

Authorities are continuing their inquiry involving at least four youths connected through digital means to the Fagersta case. Despite communication links, so far no direct involvement has been established between all suspects and the attack itself beyond the initial 18-year-old accused. The prosecutor has refrained from detailing whether these murder preparation plans targeted a school, emphasizing ongoing investigations.

The expanding probe highlights increasingly complex networks of youths potentially involved in or inspired by violent incidents, with digital footprints proving critical in uncovering their associations. Police efforts remain focused on ensuring public safety and clarifying each individual's role as inquiries develop further.
