Graham Potter Extends Contract as Sweden National Football Team Coach Until 2030

Graham Potter has signed a contract extension that keeps him at the helm of the Swedish national football team through the 2030 World Cup. The timing of the announcement, just ahead of the critical World Cup playoff matches against Ukraine and a potential second match against Poland or Albania, underscores the Swedish Football Association's (SvFF) commitment to long-term development and stability.

Potter took over the Swedish team in October 2025 after Jon Dahl Tomasson was dismissed following disappointing World Cup qualifying results. Despite finishing last in their qualifying group, Sweden secured a playoff spot for the 2026 World Cup by winning their Nations League group in 2024. The play-offs commence with a match against Ukraine on March 26, 2026, in Valencia, followed by a decisive game on March 31 if necessary.

The new four-year extension covers not only the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico but also the European Championship in 2028 and the 2030 World Cup hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Swedish Football Association national team manager Kim Källström praised Potter's professionalism and influence, stating the extension provides essential security ahead of the playoffs.
