Swedish Women's Handball Shines in EM Warm-Up as Final Squad Awaits Announcement

The Swedish women's national handball team moved a step closer to the 2026 European Championship after a strong warm-up match where they edged Brazil 28-24. The game showcased the electrifying form of Tyra Axnér, who scored an impressive eight goals and earned high praise for her "phenomenal" performance.

Goalkeeper Johanna Bundsen was also a standout, with expert Mikaela Mässing lauding her as the world's best in the throwing phase. Together with fellow goalkeepers Stina Littorin and Evelina Eriksson, Bundsen reinforced Sweden's defensive line in the crucial preparation phase. The team carried forward the momentum despite the retirement of Jamina Roberts, with Axnér now stepping into a pivotal left back role, shouldering significant responsibility.

Head coach Tomas Axnér expressed confidence in the squad's preparedness ahead of Sweden's first European Championship match slated for December 4 against Germany. He is set to announce the final EM roster on November 2, marking a key milestone in the team's European Championship journey.

While the Swedish women's squad prepares for the upcoming tournament, it is worth noting the related news in men's handball, where Swedish-born Miguel Mbumba has joined Finland's men's team, highlighting the cross-national handball talent in the region.

The upcoming European Championship represents a critical challenge for Sweden as they look to build on their recent form and fulfill expectations with a well-rounded team bolstered by emerging and reliable talents.
