Da Vinciskolan Shines at Chalmers Teknikåttan Regional Final Inspiring Youth in STEM

On April 16, Chalmers University of Technology hosted the Västra Götaland regional final of Teknikåttan, a nationwide Swedish competition aimed at eighth graders to stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Among six finalist classes, Da17B and Da17C from Da Vinciskolan in Nödinge qualified through a preceding digital quiz and showcased strong teamwork during challenges including unlocking a safe, answering true or false questions, and building bridges from rubber bands and skewers.

Da17C impressively secured third place, earning 5,000 SEK for their class fund, with student Alexander Jedenius emphasizing the balanced contributions from all team members. This event not only tested technical skills but also offered students a glimpse into university life, possibly shaping their future educational decisions.

The competition particularly aims to inspire girls and youth broadly to pursue interests in technology and science. Many participants were captivated by Chalmers’ facilities, highlighting the event's motivational impact. Winners from this regional contest will progress to the national final at the Technical Museum in Stockholm.

Da17C students are deliberating how to use their prize money, considering a class trip to Spain, though acknowledging the funding might be insufficient for the entire cost. This initiative exemplifies efforts to connect students directly to research and everyday technological applications while supporting sustainable development education.
