A new community-driven initiative in Mjölby has successfully engaged approximately 380 residents over four weeks in open discussions about mental health support services. Galleria Kvarnen recently inaugurated a meeting room designed for dialogue on social services catering to all age groups facing various life difficulties. The events, organized by local social services, were held multiple afternoons each week to both inform the public and collect feedback on community welfare needs.
As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, organizers installed five yellow "friendship benches" around the town, aimed at encouraging conversations about mental well-being. A notable highlight was a lecture by Henrik Wahlström, who candidly shared his experience with bipolar disorder, emphasizing the critical need to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
In addition to these efforts, activities such as a trivia walk commemorating Alzheimer’s Day and the "YOU have the ball!" initiative promoted a culture of respect and safety in sports through educational discussions.
The social services team expressed sincere gratitude to all participants for their curiosity and willingness to engage in these meaningful conversations, marking a significant step forward in community mental health awareness and support in Mjölby.
