Controversy Erupts Over Sicklavallen Housing Plan Amid Local Sports Opposition

The debate over the Sicklavallen housing development has intensified as community groups rally against the municipal plan to build 200 housing units and two seven-a-side football fields. Local football club Sickla IF and the network Rädda Nackaidrotten are advocating for a sports park featuring an eleven-a-side football pitch instead, emphasizing the need to protect sports facilities.

Municipal councilor Filip Wiljander (M) has been the focal point of opposition, receiving 450 nearly identical emails from concerned citizens opposing the housing project. Despite this, Wiljander supports the development and is committed to addressing all feedback, though he has so far responded to only 136 emails.

The local pushback reflects broader community activism aiming to preserve sports spaces and establish a well-equipped sports park rather than residential units. The municipal council's decision on the matter was scheduled for April 27, 2026.
