Beloved Swedish Actor Nils Eklund Dies at 99, Leaving a Rich Legacy in Theatre and Television

Nils Eklund, a cherished figure in Swedish theatre and television, has passed away at the age of 99. His final stage appearance was in 2019, performing in Lars Norén's play 'Andante' at Dramaten at the age of 92. Eklund's long and varied career included popular TV roles in productions like 'Göta kanal' and the early 1980s series 'Svenska Sesam', where he portrayed the character Pom-Pom.

Eklund also contributed significantly to Swedish theatre, having worked with city theatres in Helsingborg and Malmö early in his career before joining Dramaten's permanent ensemble until his retirement. His artistic achievements were recognized with the prestigious Litteris et Artibus medal in 2010.

Beyond his on-screen and stage roles, Eklund was beloved by younger generations for his voice work, notably as Pettson in the children’s series 'Pettson och Findus'.
