12-Year-Old Murder Suspect in Malmö Retracts Confession Amid Ongoing Investigation

A 12-year-old boy suspected of a December homicide in Oxie, Malmö, has retracted his initial confession, claiming he was coerced into admitting guilt in exchange for compensation. The case, which has drawn national attention due to the suspect's young age — the youngest ever in Sweden suspected of such a serious crime — continues to unfold with a focus on both legal and social aspects.

The shooting occurred on December 12 around 11 PM, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old man inside a car. The boy initially confessed to the shooting, stating it took place after he was picked up from a residential care facility. However, the boy later withdrew his confession, asserting that he was pressured to take responsibility for the murder. The ongoing police investigation also includes other persons of interest, indicating the case's complexity.

Following the incident, the suspect contacted the police himself and was apprehended at a train station near Helsingborg. During this time, he made startling claims about previously accepting two murder assignments from a criminal network, although he did not act on those alleged assignments.

The court has placed the boy in custody under the Care of Young Persons Act (LVU) due to safety concerns. Since the shooting, he has been moved between care facilities because of threats and has exhibited aggressive behavior towards staff. Reports highlight that despite extensive support efforts, the boy has been romanticizing violence, gang life, and drugs, often trying to maintain a gangster persona.
