Swedish pop star Zara Larsson has revealed the professional repercussions of her political stance concerning the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. Larsson declined to perform at the event in Malmö due to Israel’s participation amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza, a decision she described as emotionally challenging. In her documentary, "Zara Larsson – Up Close," she said, "It feels very disturbing in my body because I don't think it feels fun."

Larsson’s support for Palestine and vocal comments following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 have led to significant backlash. She noted losing multiple performance opportunities and experiencing a level of public cancellation she hadn’t encountered before. Despite Eurovision being viewed as a major career platform, Larsson concluded, "I felt I couldn't go up on that stage at that time and stand for it."
