Youth in Malmö Engaged in Arson via Social Media Amid Ongoing Conflict

Malmö police are investigating around ten suspected arson attacks since mid-December, linked to an ongoing conflict within the city. These fires have caused damage to vehicles, building facades, stairwells, and doors. Notably, youths have been taking on arson assignments through social media advertisements, according to police reports.

Rasem Chebil, operational chief of Malmö's investigation section, expressed concern that young perpetrators do not grasp the severe consequences of their actions, both for others and for themselves. At least ten individuals have been detained on suspicion of arson or attempted arson. Two young suspects have already suffered injuries while setting fires. One teenager suffered severe burns after attempting to ignite a gas canister and gasoline in front of an apartment door on Christmas Day; he is now wanted for serious arson.

Authorities have issued warnings to gas stations in and around Malmö to be vigilant for young customers purchasing gasoline in jerrycans, as these purchases may be linked to arson plans. The police highlight the dangerous nature of these acts and the potential for harm to both the community and the youths involved.
