Volvo Unveils EX60 Electric SUV with Industry-Leading Range and Innovative Safety Features

Volvo Cars has launched its new electric premium SUV, the EX60, marking a major leap forward in the company’s electric vehicle technology. According to Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson, the EX60 signifies a new beginning for the automaker, boasting a class-leading driving range of up to 810 kilometers on a single charge based on WLTP standards.

The EX60 is built on Volvo's advanced SPA3 platform, developed exclusively for electric vehicles. This platform integrates batteries into the vehicle's structure, reducing weight and enhancing handling and efficiency. Megacasting technology is also used to replace multiple small parts with a single high-precision cast component, further improving the vehicle’s performance and production efficiency.

The SUV is available in three variants: the base P6 rear-wheel drive producing 374 horsepower with a 620-km range, the P10 AWD with 510 horsepower delivering 660 km, and the top-tier P12 AWD offering an impressive 680 horsepower that accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

Charging capabilities are equally advanced. The EX60 can add up to 340 kilometers of range in only 10 minutes using an 800-volt, 400 kW fast charger, and a full charge from 10 to 80 percent takes about 19 minutes. This rapid charging technology places it among the fastest-charging electric SUVs on the market.

Safety innovations include the world’s first multi-adaptive seatbelt system, which adjusts dynamically to provide optimal protection based on passenger size and the specifics of a potential collision. This groundbreaking safety feature complements Volvo’s longstanding reputation for occupant protection.

The interior also emphasizes practicality, featuring 523 liters of cargo space expandable to 1,647 liters with rear seats folded down, plus a front trunk offering an additional 58 liters. Certain variants can also tow up to 2,400 kilograms, enhancing the EX60’s utility.
