Volvo Cars Resolves Month-Long Semiconductor Crisis Leveraging Strong Chinese Partnership

Volvo Cars has successfully overcome a semiconductor supply crisis that lasted nearly a month. The shortage was linked to the Chinese semiconductor company Nexperia. Francesca Gamboni, head of industrial operations at Volvo Cars, emphasized that being part of the Geely group has been a significant advantage during this period, as having a strong Chinese corporate partner proved extremely beneficial when navigating challenges in China.

This resolution comes amid continued advancements at Volvo Cars, which recently announced updates to its electric SUV model year 2026 EX90. These enhancements include the introduction of an 800-volt electrical system enabling faster charging, connected hazard warnings, and automatic emergency call functions, reflecting the company's focus on technology and safety.

The semiconductor crisis highlighted the critical importance of robust international corporate ties, particularly between Swedish and Chinese firms, in securing supply chains. According to Gamboni, "Having access to a strong Chinese partner is always valuable when facing problems in China," illustrating how Geely's backing helped Volvo manage the supply disruption effectively.
