Västerbergslagen Springs to Life with Diverse Cultural Events and Innovative Theatre

The Västerbergslagen region in Sweden is embracing a vibrant cultural season spearheaded by Torbjörn Sjöberg and the Dans och Folkton association. Sjöberg, who received the Ludvika culture prize last year, has crafted a spring program featuring a rich mix of activities—from foreign policy discussions and jazz concerts to folk music and community loppis events. The season kicks off on January 31 with Pereric Högberg, a Foreign Ministry communications chief and former ambassador, delivering a lecture on foreign policy and jazz's international influence, followed by a concert blending jazz and folk traditions.

Adding to the region's dynamic cultural landscape is the premiere of the play "Män som väver" on January 29 at Stockholm's Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. Inspired by Petter Hellsing's textile art, the production tells the story of three men living in isolation who form a family-like bond that is tested by one man's decision to leave. The play explores male emotional struggles with separation, jealousy, and communication, featuring actors Hampus Hallberg, Andreas Kundler, and Lennart Jähkel.

Sjöberg emphasizes making culture accessible and community-oriented, with events attracting visitors from across Västerbergslagen and beyond. The program includes performances by the band Quilty, tributes to Pugh Rogefeldt and Elvis Presley, and unique loppis gatherings that combine fun with coin valuation activities. The season will culminate in a concert by Janne Krantz and collaborators, showcasing local musical talents.
