Vänsterpartiet Vows to Push for Left-Wing Policies in Potential Social Democratic Government

Nooshi Dadgostar, leader of Vänsterpartiet, has pledged to exert strong influence on the policy direction of a prospective Social Democratic-led government. Speaking at a recent event, Dadgostar highlighted the party's rising popularity, currently polling above 8%, well above their 2022 election results, and promised to push the government further to the left. She warned against Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson collaborating with center-right parties like Centerpartiet or Kristdemokraterna, asserting that such alliances would lead to continued right-wing policies.

Dadgostar outlined Vänsterpartiet's key demands, which include shorter working hours without wage cuts, increased study grants, tackling youth housing shortages, permanent reductions in public transport fares, abolishing the waiting day for sick pay, free dental care, and rent freezes.

However, Andersson has indicated that Vänsterpartiet must address certain internal issues before securing ministerial positions, referencing past controversies surrounding some party members. She also remarked that Vänsterpartiet currently sets too many red lines for cooperation, urging voters who support her as prime minister to back the Social Democrats directly.

While the calls for a leftward shift intensify, the political negotiations remain tense, with Vänsterpartiet leveraging its growing support to shape government policies and secure influence within the coalition if a Social Democrat government is formed after the 2026 election.
