Two Swedish Nationals Missing After Devastating Nepal Flood and Landslide

A major natural disaster has struck the border region between Nepal and Tibet, leaving two individuals connected to Sweden missing amid widespread destruction. The disaster, triggered by flooding and subsequent landslides caused by heavy rains and a collapsing glacier in the Himalayas, has resulted in a confirmed death toll of 359 and over 1,300 people reported missing.

The missing include a Swedish citizen in their 40s and another foreign national residing in Sweden, as confirmed by Nepal's tourist authority and Swedish officials. Additionally, another Swedish citizen is among the over one thousand people unaccounted for in the disaster's aftermath. Rescue operations are ongoing amid concerns about a newly formed lake in the affected area that may overflow.

Local authorities and experts have indicated that the disaster’s severity was increased by a rapid, violent flow of debris and water following a glacier collapse, which led to extensive damage including collapsed buildings and destroyed roads. Despite the grim situation, there have been positive developments: 100 missing Indian tourists and 25 Chinese workers initially reported unaccounted for have been found alive.
