Two Arrested in Serious Bribery Scandal within Stockholm Traffic Administration

Two individuals have been detained amid a major bribery investigation involving the Traffic Administration in the Stockholm region. The arrests stem from suspicions of serious bribery offenses that allegedly took place between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024. A traffic official within Region Stockholm and a 36-year-old man connected to a company supplying bus stop equipment were both arrested and remanded after a court deemed there was probable cause, citing risks that the suspects could destroy evidence or flee.

According to Prosecutor Pontus Bergsten, the investigation found special grounds to detain the suspects due to the severity of the charges and the risks involved. The police have conducted raids at multiple locations in Stockholm, including the traffic administration office, seizing electronic devices and business documents now under analysis. Three additional individuals remain under suspicion but are still free.

The case has prompted Region Stockholm to freeze all payments to the implicated company and announce plans for an external review of the matter. Affected parties will convene an extraordinary assembly session on February 17 to address the issue further. Erik Norling, administrative chief of the Traffic Administration, commented on the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that any abuse of public trust and taxpayer money is a very serious concern.
