Tragic Boat Accident in Lofoten Involves Swedish Family, One Missing

A serious boating accident occurred in Lofoten, Norway, involving a Swedish family on September 26, 2025. The incident took place during a guided fishing tour organized by the Swedish company Nordic Sea Angling, when their boat capsized while navigating through Nappstraumen at around 1 PM. The vessel was carrying six Swedes, including two children, along with a fishing guide. Tragically, while six individuals were rescued, one child remains missing.

As rescuers worked tirelessly, the situation took a dire turn when a rescue worker from the Norwegian rescue service, known as Redningsselskapet, lost their life amid the operations. Jimmy Andersson, CEO of Nordic Sea Angling, expressed deep shock and disbelief regarding the accident, stating it was “unexplainable” considering the boat's size, the sheltered environment, and the experience of the guide onboard. According to Andersson, the boat capsized due to a sudden backflow current that unexpectedly affected it. The guide managed to rescue one child but could not locate the other, who is now reported to be of preschool age.

Two members of the family were taken to the hospital, with their conditions reported as stable, while the remaining individuals on board were unharmed. Following the accident, the boat is expected to be retrieved later in the evening as authorities continue to search for the missing child. Infamously, Nordic Sea Angling has been operating for over two decades without any previous incidents, heightening the shock among the families involved.
