Tomas Axnér Extends Contract as Sweden's Women's Handball Coach Until 2028

Tomas Axnér has officially extended his contract as head coach of the Swedish women's handball team, committing to lead the squad until December 31, 2028. Axnér, who took over the coaching role in March 2020, aims to guide the team through significant upcoming championships, including the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and the European Championship in Sweden.

Under his leadership, the team has shown remarkable consistency, achieving top five placements in their last six championships. Axnér stated, "The passion and dream of taking a medal are certainly great and a contributing reason for wanting to keep working hard," expressing his ambition for the team to clinch a medal in future competitions. He has notably led Sweden to semifinal appearances in multiple major tournaments, including the Olympics and World Championships.

Robert Wedberg, Secretary General of the Swedish Handball Federation, has commended Axnér's impact on the team, highlighting his efforts despite a challenging 11th place finish at the 2020 European Championship. The women's team will gather for two matches against Hungary ahead of their participation in the World Championship scheduled for November 26 to December 14, 2025.
