Tobias Billström Joins Nordic Air Defence as Director of Strategy and Government Affairs

Tobias Billström, former Swedish foreign minister, has taken on a new role as Director of Strategy and Government Affairs at Nordic Air Defence, a defense startup specializing in anti-drone technology. This appointment marks Billström's first significant job after leaving government in September 2024, where he notably contributed to Sweden’s NATO accession. In his new position, his key responsibility will be to secure government contracts and navigate the defense procurement bureaucracy, an area where he aims to improve efficiency and align closely with government agencies such as FMV and ISP.

Billström expressed strong alignment with Nordic Air Defence's mission to develop cutting-edge solutions against drone threats. CEO Karl Rosander praised Billström’s recruitment, highlighting a contrast between his formal political persona and his approachable character. Billström previously received a severance package of 156,000 SEK per month after leaving government service, which he confirms was compliant with regulations. He has no plans to claim additional parliamentary income guarantees. Details about his salary at Nordic Air Defence have not been disclosed.
