Three Bjuv Politicians Threatened; Police Investigation and Heightened Security Underway

Three politicians in the municipality of Bjuv were subjected to threats last year, prompting a police investigation into illegal intimidation. Investigation leader Johan Elisasson confirmed that police are actively interviewing those involved as part of their inquiries. In response to the threats, Bjuv municipality has taken measures to bolster safety for its politicians, including distributing personal alarms and organizing supportive conversations to help them cope with the stress.

Baloo Engström, chairman of the municipal council from the Sverigedemokraterna party, condemned the threats, stating they "ultimately undermine democracy." The political climate in Bjuv has been tense, with notable friction between the governing Moderates and Sverigedemokraterna over the past year. This unrest culminated in a public demonstration outside Varagårdsskolan, the venue for council meetings. However, following these events, the two parties have since reconciled, seeking to move past the discord.
