Teen Mother My Nyström Shares Her Journey and Future Aspirations

Fifteen-year-old My Nyström from Sandviken recently welcomed her daughter Nicole, born on August 22, 2025. Following a period of consideration, My made the decision to keep her baby, stating that she would have regretted choosing abortion. The experience has been emotional, with My's boyfriend providing support throughout the pregnancy, although her family's reactions varied, initially marked by shock. Over time, they have accepted her choice, with her mother, Lotta, emerging as a strong advocate for My, even at the cost of relationships with some friends.

In Sweden, the number of parents under 18 years of age has sharply declined, with only 21 girls reported as new mothers in the year 2024, highlighting the unique nature of My's situation. My has been proactive about her education, aiming to complete her studies digitally in order to graduate alongside her peers. She believes that being a young mother may actually help her bond with her daughter, as they will share a closer age gap as Nicole grows.

Despite the challenges faced during her pregnancy, including numerous medical visits, My remains optimistic about her future, balancing motherhood with her educational ambitions. Social services are set to offer support to ensure My can manage her responsibilities as a minor mother while pursuing her goals.
