Swedish Women's Volleyball Team Advances to Historic Eighth Finals at European Championship

The Swedish women's volleyball team has achieved a historic milestone by advancing to the eighth finals of the 2026 European Championship. After a strong group stage performance in Gothenburg where they finished third — the best group result ever for a Swedish women's team in the tournament — Sweden secured their spot among the top eight teams.

The team will face the host nation, the Czech Republic, in Brno this Monday at 19:00. The match will be broadcast live on SVT and SVT Play. Despite being the lower-ranked team, Sweden carries confidence from a previous victory against the Czech Republic two years ago in the Golden League.

Head coach Lorenzo Micelli emphasized the importance of mental recovery after the intense group matches, stating, "What we can recover is the mental aspect; physically, we are ready to play." Captain Anna Haak echoed this sentiment, saying the team is focused on resting and recharging, while appreciating their past performances.

With four out of six teams from their group qualifying for the knockout stages, Sweden’s advancement marks a significant breakthrough for Swedish women's volleyball. Micelli remains optimistic about the upcoming match, noting, "If we read the match correctly, it can be our match."
