Ann Heberlein's recent book "Svenska värderingar" (Swedish Values) explores this evolving emphasis on Swedish cultural identity. Heberlein notes a marked change from past political rhetoric, such as that of Fredrik Reinfeldt and Mona Sahlin, who once downplayed Swedish culture. Today, Swedish values are regarded as essential to preserving the nation's way of life, with a unique emphasis on extreme individualism and secularism.
